something that has been on my mind for a long enough time...
so what is this all about? you pathetic fools who are focused on exterior decor! are you really so superficial? are you really making the world a better place by being responsible for what a car LOOKS like?
lets think about it. what is your role in the process of creating a product? what is it exactly that you do? you get a project... usually your boss tells you what it is that you need to concentrate your creative muscles on. He is not the one who comes up with this subject matter, no, its his bosses... rather not even them, its their bosses in turn. So ok, here we have it, a new wonderful product, a car that is a replacement for an existing very successful car... all you have to do is make it look slightly more modern! and wow! behold, it will sell in even greater numbers than it does now! it is not any different from the older version, it just looks more 'modern'
sense a problem? you are an expert in superficiality! what a profession, what an occupation! some of THEM are surgeons! some of THEM are peacekeepers, activists, doctors, etc! some of THEM are engineers! but we are 'designers' otherwise known as useless, money wasting parasites who are responsible for how things 'look' like
we know what is modern and what is not, we are a living top 40 list! we know trends and we follow them! sometimes we are so cool, we actually go against trends (mind you it is still only due to the fact that we know about them in the first place). We sell useless things to boring people for the kind of money that they actually do not have (most of them get it as a loan from a bank), things that are of no benefit for them! things that are redundant! how on earth is the next 'blah' better than the current 'blah'? oh, i forgot, it looks more modern.
it used to be different, i do not know about you, but i had a different aspiration in life. i loved cars. not products, not marketing, not money. i loved cars! my hero was not Marcello Gandini, my hero was not Brian Nesbitt, my heros are not Freeman Thomases and J Mayses...
My heros were Enzo Ferrari and Ettore Bugatti! people who created cars! not their exteriors! Those who shit on trends and just did what their heart told them to do! they did not try to sell, they did not try to outsell, outcompete, outrun, outstyle. Does their job still exist? is it possible to become one of them?
Funny, i generally dislike those designers who spent hours picking out clothes, doing their hair, creating an ever evolving image for themselves... those of us (you) who bother to style everything about our (your) lives. i find it very superficial and unattractive: i mean is there nothing better you can spend your time doing? picking out a belt that fits your gay-ass slim pants, with a tight shirt that has been torn in a particular spot, exposing some of that freshly trimmed chest hair... superficial empty shell of a person! fucking idiot!
but who am I? who are we all? why is it ok to do to cars what I consider wrong doing to oneself? why is it ok to move lines up and down, play with volumes? make it more muscular (it still has only 100hp, no matter how much you sculpt those hips) etc! this is just as lame and just as superficial, just as pathetic, just as useless.
we are so absolutely useless.
i could go on, but it is also useless.
